Fall 2017 Reading Groups: Words Will Break Cement

In anticipation of journalist and author Masha Gessen‘s visit to the WFU campus (click here for details), the WFU Humanities Institute, the LGBTQ Center, the Women’s Center, and the Pro Humanitate Institute will offer a series of Reading Groups discussing Gessen’s book, Words Will Break Cement: The Passion of Pussy Riot.

The reading groups are part of the Humanities Institute’s HOW WE KNOW/WHAT WE KNOW: Humanities Common Knowledge, a series of programming which will explore humanities knowledge formation in research and teaching.

The Humanities Institute, LGBTQ Center, and the Women’s Center will offer reading groups on the Reynolda campus that are open to all WFU students, faculty, and staff on Wednesday, October 18th and Thursday, October 26th at a variety of different times and locations throughout the day.

The Pro Humanitate Institute will host a Community Reading Group at 5:30pm on Thursday, November 2nd at the Pro Humanitate House (2599 Reynolda Road). Facilitators will be Kaylan Baxter, Sylvia Oberle, and Shelley Sizemore.

Copies of the book will be provided in advance (instructions on obtaining your book copy will be sent to your email address after you register).

All groups are invited to gather together for a Reading Group Debriefing session from 12:30-2:00pm on Thursday, November 9th in the ZSR Library Auditorium (after Gessen’s talk on November 7th).
